| I started out my career in advertising photography in the mid-eighties. My first experience, while attending college, was in San Francisco with food photographer Michael LaMotte. After spending some time in his studio, I moved to New York City and went to work for another food photographer by the name of Arthur Beck. During this time, I started free-lance assisting with many of New York's finest food and beverage photographers. By 1990, I began shooting for myself and landed some fantastic jobs with Conde' Nast Publications (House and Garden) and Sanofi Cosmetics with brands such as: Oscar de la Renta, Yves Saint Laurent and Voupte'. I decided to move back to California in 1995 and began working in Los Angeles with a whole new group of clients such as Giorgio Beverly Hills (Red, Wings, Giorgio, and Hugo Boss), Merle Norman and California Sun Care. After three years of freelance work, I joined Burke/Triolo Productions as an associate and began shooting for many food and beverage clients. Some of these clients include: Nestléâs, Tessara Wines, Sunkist, Mission Foods, Con Agra, Sizzler, Farmer John and many more. A few years later, I moved into our current Culver City studio, which I built and designed specifically for food photography. Our recent clients include: Dole, Haagan-Das, Driscoll's Berries, Marie's Salad Dressings, Global Berry Farms, Killian's Beer, New Castle Beer, Weight Watchers, Tyson Chicken, Taco Maker, Carl's Jr. and Slim Jim. My wife and business partner, Jennifer James, came on board in 2001 and carries a BA in advertising photography from Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, California. In 2005, we started James and James Photography that specializes in lifestyle with food, product and/or beverage. Our rule is to always work with the best food and prop stylists, use the best crew and provide our clients with the best equipment. We are fortunate enough to have a wonderful career in advertising photography in which we have our creative and talented clients to thank. |
